“My idea of a good picture is one that’s in focus and of a famous person doing something unfamous. It’s being in the right place at the wrong time.” -Andy Warhol, in Andy Warhol’s Exposures (1979)
This October, our Andy Warhol @ Christie’s sale features a unique grouping of artworks from the world of fashion. From the collection of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, Warhol @ Christie’s: Always in Fashion (October 9-21), features photographs, prints and drawings revealing the personalities — and alluring accessories — that dominated the contemporary New York style scene. Early illustrations of his shoes are available, as well as Polaroids of André Leon Talley, the former intern at Interview Magazine, and former Editor-At-Large of Vogue, as well as photographs of Grace Jones, Calvin Klein, Diane von Furstenberg, and the ultimate fashion maven, Diana Vreeland.
