STUDIO 54
From the moment it opened its doors 36 years ago at 254 West 54th Street in April 1977, Studio 54 established itself as one of the most wild and infamous landmarks on the New York club scene. Night after night, it welcomed an eclectic and elite group of artists, musicians, fashion designers, socialites, supermodels, drag queens and countless bizarre and beautiful creatures to revel in the Studio’s hedonistic aura of dance, drugs and disco. During its zenith from 1977-1980, it was  not uncommon to find the likes of Liza Minnelli, Halston, Elton John, Brooke Shields or Truman Capote holding court in the balcony, or Diana Ross and Michael Jackson getting down on the dance floor. But perhaps no one better personified the mix of celebrity, art, indulgence, and glamor than regular patron Andy Warhol.

From April 26-May 3, Christie’s one-week online auction features a glittering selection of more than 200 paintings, photographs, drawings and prints that celebrate the legacy of this infamous nightclub.
